Mid-Valley Hospital and Geisinger Health Plan reach new agreement

DANVILLE, PA – Mid-Valley Hospital and Geisinger Health Plan have reached an agreement on a new contract to provide health-care services to Geisinger Health Plan members.

The new three-year agreement went into effect April 2 and includes all lines of business.

“Mid-Valley Hospital provides our members with quality, affordable health care,” says Michael Morucci, GHP’s vice president of marketing and sales. “We are happy to continue to offer Mid-Valley Hospital as a health care choice for our members. This new contract will allow our members to receive services close to home.”

Mid-Valley Hospital is a community based healthcare facility providing services to local and rural areas for over 90 years.  Founded in 1912, MVH was established to provide care to coal miners and their families.  The hospital is located at 1400 Main Street in Peckville.

In December 2005, MVH was designated as a “Critical Access Hospital” to provide transitional care.  Under Critical Access Status, MVH is licensed for 25 beds for inpatient services.  These beds may be utilized as any combination of acute care or rransitional care services.  The primary inpatient population served is Medicare patients, however 24-hour emergency services are available to meet the emergent health-care needs of patients of all ages in the community.

Mid-Valley Hospital is a member of Moses Taylor Health Care System, comprised of Moses Taylor Hospital and Physicians Health Alliance, Inc., a 44-member, multi-specialty physician group.  Mid-Valley Hospital employs 150 people and has 100 physicians privileged for active and courtesy staff who are committed to the delivery of healthcare with respect and dignity in a cost effective manner.

MVH was recognized in 2005 as the #1 hospital in Eastern Pennsylvania by Quality Insights of Pennsylvania for the care of Patients with Community Acquired Pneumonia.
