What are your current and near-future health care needs?
This will help determine the level of coverage is right for you. If you rarely use health care services, you may want a plan with basic coverage, or a higher deductible option. If you use services more frequently, you may benefit from a plan that offers additional coverage and lower out of pocket expenses. If you are requesting coverage for dependents, their needs should be considered as well.
What is your budget?
Knowing how much you can afford for health insurance can help you narrow down your options. In addition to your monthly premium, keep in mind you may also need to account for deductibles and copayment amounts. In general, plans that have a lower premium typically have higher deductibles and copayment amounts. Plans that have a higher premium typically have lower deductibles and copayment amounts.
Comparing plans
As you are considering your plan options, make sure you are comparing apples to apples. In addition to premium, deductibles and copayment amounts, be sure to compare specifically what expenses are covered (preventive services, maternity coverage, prescription drug coverage, etc.) To compare plans offered by Geisinger Choice, select this comparison chart.
